In 2006 as Heartland Acres was just beginning and had just received a grant to have the 1869 One Room School House relocated from Rowley to the Heartland Acres campus. Since then, several repairs and updates have been made including, new windows, a roof and is currently undergoing the process of a fresh coat of paint to the exterior, for the second time since 2006.

“As the building continues to age the repairs and upgrades become more and more extensive it is the help and support of volunteers and donors that helps with the repairs of the school.” according to Craig Johnson, Executive Director.

The One Room School House is set to have new bell mounted out front for the coming tour season as well as additional landscaping updates. Long range restoration plans include new siding and roof which will reflect the time period the school was originally built in. Until funding can be secured for those restoration plans, the school house will continue to receive the love and care needed to preserve it in to the future.

Heartland Acres is a volunteer based, none profit, organized as a 501 c ( 3 ) entity.
