Family Fishing Day Recap

Family Fishing Day was recently held at the Heartland Acres campus on Father’s Day Sunday, June 15. The event created an opportunity for families to bring their children out for an afternoon of fishing on Swan Lake.

“The popularity of Family Fishing day has grown over the last few years so we decided to expand the opportunity to experience fishing on Swan Lake.”, commented Craig Johnson Executive Director. Family Fishing Day will be held the second Sunday of the month through September. Fishing will run from noon to 4:00PM. Wristbands to fish Swan Lake may be purchased at the admission desk in the museum.

Aquaculture (Fish Farming) in Iowa is seeing interest among some Iowa farmers as a way to diversify and use existing resources. Heartland Acres is using Swan Lake and Family Fishing day as a way to help visitors learn about aquaculture and enjoy an afternoon of fishing with the family along with seeing the museum.
