Heartland Acres receives Buchanan County Community Foundation Grant and Anonymous Donation for One Room School House Updates

Shawn Franck sitting on the roof is assisted by his brother in law, Tony Schwarting as they put new shingles on the roof of the one room school house at Heartland Acres earlier this year.

This summer, Heartland Acres wrote a grant request to Buchanan County Community Foundation asking for financial assistance to update our one room school house roof, the windows in the school house and install two new automatic handicap accessible door openers for the front entrance to the museum.

In the process of writing the grant for the updates, the museum also received an anonymous donation and the help local volunteers. As it turned out, the grant along with the anonymous donation and volunteer support helped the non-profit museum save a little extra money and allowed it to upgrade their floor sweeper too.

Craig Johnson, Executive Director stated, “The importance of donations and sponsors is crucial to our sustainability and help in our ongoing projects. As a not for profit organization we rely on donations to support us in our many activities and our mission to attract, educate and entertain visitors about our agricultural heritage. Donations to Heartland Acres are tax deductible.”

Heartland Acres continues to build on established activities, bringing in new exhibits on a regular basis and is active with several museums and historical societies throughout Iowa.
